WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?
For the first 4 years, we donated all proceeds to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). For the 5th anniversary, we instead donated to a scholarship fund at Camp Needlepoint (located in Hudson, WI), sponsored by the American Diabetes Association (ADA), to help pay for a child with Type 1 Diabetes be able to attend camp! RACE BACKGROUND
This event and its cause was inspired by my brother, Joey. He was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 11 in 2009 and ever since, I talked about doing something to raise money for this disease that he battles every day. In 2013 and with the help of the Osakis Chamber of Commerce and my amazing family, the first annual event was very successful, raising just over $2000! This was in complete thanks to our 120-some participants and community sponsors! We were honored to have another Type 1 diabetic named Norah and her family join us to run in support of the cause, as well. Every year since, the race has been in honor of both Joey and Norah, and will continue to do so. Last year, we had to put the race on hold due to COVID., so we are very hopeful that we can have this race this year while keeping everyone safe! |
